FabCon Europe 2026: the announcements that reach your reports
Microsoft presented more than a hundred new features in Barcelona, from 28 September to 1 October. Four of them really matter to a company that steers its business with Power BI and Business Central. Here they are, and what they are worth once placed on a real project.

The European Microsoft Fabric conference took place in Barcelona from 28 September to 1 October 2026, with a keynote on the 29th titled “The Data Foundation for AI”. The volume of announcements is considerable: more than forty-five new features for data integration alone, and as many again on analytics, governance and databases.
An exhaustive recap already exists, and it is written by Microsoft. What follows is something else: the handful of announcements that affect a mid-sized company equipped with Power BI, and what they are worth when put to the test of a project.
One thread runs through all of them, and it deserves to be stated right away: the asset that gains value this year is your semantic model. Everything else plugs into it.
Business Central replicates directly into OneLake
Ce qui sort
Mirroring for Dynamics 365 Business Central is coming soon: the tables and companies you choose are replicated continuously into OneLake, with no pipeline to maintain and no load on the ERP. In the same wave, Mirroring for Google BigQuery and for SharePoint lists reaches general availability, and the extended capabilities, including the change feed, become generally available as well.
Ce que ça change chez nos clients
This is the most concrete announcement of the week for our clients. Today, feeding a warehouse from Business Central requires an extraction layer: queries, scheduling, a night-time window, and someone checking in the morning that everything went through. Mirroring replaces that layer with a setting.
Two points keep all their importance. The first: what arrives in OneLake is the ERP's tables, with their internal data model. Fields calculated on the fly, FlowFields in particular, are rebuilt as measures rather than replicated as values. The second: replicating is not modelling. Raw tables placed in a lake remain raw tables, and the work of giving them meaning starts there.
Your semantic models answer in Microsoft 365

Fabric IQ is generally available in Microsoft Copilot Chat and in Cowork. A question asked in natural language receives an answer built on your existing Power BI reports and semantic models, with Copilot choosing the relevant model itself. The Fabric IQ MCP server also reaches general availability, and data agents become generally available in Copilot Studio.

The point worth reading twice: these answers rely on the same semantic model as your reports, with the same measures and the same definitions. The sales director who questions Copilot from a Teams conversation and the management controller who opens the report see the same revenue. That is exactly what we call a single version of the truth, and Microsoft has just made it the entry point of its assistant.
The consequence is plain: the quality of your semantic model becomes visible to the whole company, and no longer only to those who open the reports. Well-named measures, clean relationships and certified definitions produce good answers. An approximate model produces approximate answers, at scale.
Governance follows, which is welcome: sensitivity labels and DLP policies propagate into the Copilot experiences, and a dedicated setting lets the administrator decide which semantic models take part in AI experiences.
Power BI moves from the report to the app

Power BI Desktop receives an app-building experience: you start from a trusted semantic model, describe the app in natural language, then preview it, adjust it and publish it in Fabric. These apps accept input, write data back and keep a shared state. Fabric apps will be included with Power BI Pro.

Writing back is a constant request. A margin report that displays the variances is useful; the same screen where the management controller enters their comment and their reforecast assumption becomes a working tool. Until now, this required a Power App connected alongside, or a business portal developed for the occasion.
We have been building business portals for several years, and this announcement leaves them their full place: an app generated from a semantic model covers input tied to analysis, whereas an approval workflow connected to an ERP remains a development in its own right. It does, however, cover very well the area where we used to see working Excel files circulating alongside the reports.
The entry ticket to Fabric comes down
Ce qui sort
Pay-as-you-go billing extends to all Fabric workloads: you pay for the compute consumed, which adjusts on demand. Fabric without provisioned capacity completes the picture by making it possible to start on Fabric and OneLake with no upfront capacity commitment.

This lifts the objection we hear most often at the start of a project: reserved capacity is paid for from day one, whereas the value arrives in the third month. Being able to start a proof of concept, let it run for a few weeks and pay only for the compute actually consumed changes the way a project is launched, and above all the way it is decided.
Reserved capacity keeps its full meaning once usage is established and regular: it remains the most economical model at stable volume. The benefit is to now have both, and to move from one to the other at the right moment.
The other announcements, one line each
- Semantic views: a first preview of governed business definitions, placed where the data lives in OneLake, and reusable by reports, apps and AI experiences. Alongside, a contribution to Apache Ossie to exchange these definitions between platforms.
- Data engineering agent (preview): coming from the Osmos acquisition, it takes on long tasks such as a migration or a schema harmonisation, planning, executing and validating its work over several hours.
- GPU-accelerated execution in the Fabric warehouse (public preview): gains on analytical workloads without modifying the data or the SQL. The topic mainly concerns very large volumes and heavy concurrent access.
- Dataflow Gen2 gains Excel and email destinations, shared queries to pool preparation logic, and optimised writes to the lakehouse.
- Power Query Online comes to Power BI Desktop: years of improvements to the online editor join the desktop, and the path from self-service to the governed dataflow becomes continuous.
- Materialised lake views in general availability, and Spark 4.0 with Delta Lake 4.0 in the new runtime.
What we take away
Three years after its launch, Fabric is becoming a topic of definitions as much as a topic of architecture. The Barcelona announcements all move the value to the same place: what your measures mean, and who is entitled to know it.
It is good news for the companies that have invested in their semantic model, and one more argument for those about to do so. Extraction is getting simpler, delivery is diversifying, and the work of giving data meaning remains exactly where it was: at the centre.
If you are wondering what these announcements are worth in your specific case, we are happy to look at it with you, starting from what you already have.
